Dual Citizenship


Since 1 August 2006, the Ministry of Justice has passed the Dual Citizenship law for babies whose mother is Indonesian and father, a foreigner. Babies born after this date will automatically have dual citizenship.


As for babies born before 1 August 2006, the parents must apply for dual citizenship to "Kantor Wilayah HAM Dan Kehaleiman" using the Indonesian mother-s ID card location.



Indonesian Citizenship Application


Foreigners who were originally born in Indonesia, and never possessed Indonesian Citizenship before, may come back to their hometown and can apply for their Indonesian citizenship and by submitting a Pewarganegaraan form application.



New Born Baby


For foreigner's father or parents whose new born baby in Indonesia, within 14 days from the day of new born baby, the birth certificate should be reported and registered at the local immigration.


After the birth certificate is registered by the local immigration, a foreign passport should be applied at the foreign embassy. Within 60 days from the baby born, the Indonesian temporary resident card should be applied at the local immigration. The lateness to report and or to apply temporary resident card for the foreign new born baby, the immigration department will count it as overstay for US$20/day.


The foreign father whose Indonesian temporary resident card (KITAS) or permanent resident card (KITAP) or Indonesian mother can sponsor the baby to get a temporary resident card (KITAS).


Following KITAS card and Foreign registration, the other permits should be applied are:


  • STM/Resort Police report
  • SKPPS (Surat Keterangan Penduduk Sementara) or Certificate of Temporary resident
  • SKTT (Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal) or Domicile permit
  • SKLD (Surat Keterangan Lapor Diri) or Police Card
